With the Handycam HDR-CX405, Sony’s aim is to use technology to help make a camera that makes creativity and real-world movie making easy.

To ensure images are as free as possible from shake and blur, there is Optical SteadyShot with Intelligent Active Mode for stable shots even when walking or zooming for up to 13 times more stabilisation than when in standard mode, making the most of the top class Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lens. This optic has a 30x zoom range with a 26.8mm wide angle (equivalent) making it versatile and ideal for large groups and indoor shooting. For longer zoom settings than 30x for more distant details such as sports, the 30x zoom range can be extended to 60x with very low image degradation using Clear Image Zoom.

The image quality is great even in dim conditions as the image sensor is a Back Illuminated 1/5.8 type (3.1mm) Exmor R CMOS sensor. This type has twice the sensitivity of a standard sensor type for better low light performance. Fantastic movies are the result when used with the camera’s BIONZ X processor which is capable of producing extra smooth footage at XAVC S bit rate of 50Mbps (or AVCHD). You can easily view your movies and stills on the 2.7-inch (6.7cm) Clear Photo LCD monitor which has 230,400 dots and 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio.

User features include Highlight Movie Maker with transition effects and music for a video montage of your favourite moments, and Motion Shot Video which takes multiple exposures in a single frame for action sequences that are guaranteed to impress.

For portability, the built-in USB Cable is stowed in the hand strap and is suitable for charging as well as data transfer, negating the need for either a separate USB cable or an AC adapter.
